Caryn Long Earl
Director of the Bureau of Food Assistance for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture
Caryn Long Earl serves as the Director of the Bureau of Food Assistance for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA). In this role, she administers several multi-million dollar federal and state emergency feeding programs which annually provide food assistance to more than 2 million Pennsylvanians at risk of food insecurity. Additionally, she administers the USDA Foods in Schools program which supports domestic nutrition programs and American agricultural producers through purchases of 100% American-grown and -produced foods for use in the National School Lunch Program and other federal child feeding programs. Prior to joining PDA in 2015, Caryn spent 15 years working on policy issues related to food safety and food security. This includes previous public service roles with the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service and the United States Senate. Additionally, Caryn spent time working in the non-profit sector as a Senior Policy Analyst for Feeding America and as Executive Director for Feeding Pennsylvania. Caryn holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Science degree from the University of Maryland University College. In her “free time,” Caryn serves as a dutiful soccer Mom to her 7- and 9-year-year old sons.
